We often have the impression of being helpless

Recently, Axel Tardieu, a journalist in several media outlets including the newspaper 24-hres, published an article on the difficult conditions of rental housing owners.

Martin Messier, President of the APQ participated in this report: "This Quebec woman is not the only one to be discouraged, according to the Association des Propriétaires du Québec (APQ). The number of calls for help they receive from their 17,000 members has doubled in one year. Some owners are discouraged, even depressed. The lack of housing, the housing crisis, means that conflicts are prolonged," observes Martin Messier, president of the APQ. When the tenant says: "I don't have a home, I can't leave", the conflict persists and grows. And then, it's depression. People call us in panic mode and say, 'I can't sleep anymore, I don't have a life anymore,” explains Martin Messier.

There is a lot of talk in the newspapers about the impact of the housing crisis on tenants, but it has a very real impact on landlords as well.
- Tenants who decide not to leave their housing because they haven't found anything: You have to leave, it's rented again!
- Tenants who lie about their rental references, jobs, situations, to get a dwelling: Be careful, we take the time and we check all prospects at 360°!
- Tenants who offer non-legal options, such as paying a security deposit, to have the unit to rent.
- A moratorium that prevents subdividing a dwelling, substantially expanding it or changing its use.
- More and more cases of non-payment of rent.

It is becoming more and more difficult to own a house. Conflicts have multiplied as quickly as the rights of landlords have been restricted.

It's time for that to change, but this time to support landlords!
