The building industry will soon have a “first” in Québec, namely its official “code of ethics”, namely a performance guide launched today by the Association provinciale des constructeurs d'habitations du Québec (APCHQ) (Provincial Association of home builders of Québec) at a news conference held at its head office in Anjou recently.
''As part of a general consensus within the industry, the guide is THE MAIN REFERENCE for all those who wish to update their knowledge about best practices in residential construction and who wish to ensure that quality standards are respected.”
André Gagné, Training and Technical Expertise department explained that the new guide is aimed at consumers as well as those working in the industry. “It is a tool that can help everyone; at least, that is our hope.”
The main objective of the new guide is to well define the concept of professional ethical concepts, and to make official what was done in practice to a greater extent. Québec is following the example of the other Canadian provinces and the United States. Ontario already has a similar guide 10 years ago, and the results have been positive.
It should be remembered that this ''Performance Guide” does not have the goal of replacing the requirements of the various building codes, but will complement them.
The APCHQ’s ''Performance Guide » was the result of one year of work and will be regularly revised taking into account new construction techniques and methods.
