According to statistics already published by the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), it is interesting to notice that seven percent of Canadian households have purchased an habitation in 2007.
The study was carried out in ten large urban centres. As far as Montreal is concerned, five percent of the households have become property owners, which is slightly less than the Canadian average.
Households from Calgary have purchased a principal residence last year, most numerously, when 10 % of them decided to do so.
In five out of the ten markets focused upon by the study: i.e. Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver, additional questions have been asked to analyse underlying buying intentions.
Among the households of these large urban centres one has been able to notice that 40% of the households that have purchased a principal residence last year were aged between 18 and 34.
Moreover, 40 % of the households that became property owners during this same period did so for the very first time.
