The Gazette officielle du Québec has published a draft Regulation modifying the Building Code in order to support energy effectiveness. This draft Regulation has the aim of establishing, for the whole of the territory of Quebec, the standards to be respected by the designers and the manufacturers in order to improve the energy effectiveness of new housing constructions. This draft Regulation defines the buildings concerned and also limits the range of application of the new chapter “energy effectiveness” of the Building Code.
These standards constitute part 11 of the Building Code - chapter building, managed by the Régie. The project replaces for the buildings concerned the requirements contained in the Regulation on energy saving in the new buildings which are more than 25 years old. The new regulations take as a starting point the voluntary standard Novoclimat for the individual dwellings and the residential buildings. This new regulation improves the energy performance of the buildings by 20 to 25%. The Régie has based itself on the recommendations of the Agency of Energy Effectiveness during the actualization of the standards of energy effectiveness.
