To discuss the guidelines of the various parties in relation to the rental law the Association of Quebec Landlords (APQ) met some MNAs.
We have obviously been discussing the different Bills that are under consideration and possible future changes.
The APQ met Mrs Françoise David, MNA for Gouin of Québec Solidaire, to discuss Bill 492 on repossession. Mrs David is the author of this Bill which she has tabled in the spring of 2015.
This Bill will be submitted for discussion in mid-September and the APQ will be heard.
This meeting was meant to sensitize Mrs David to the other side of the rental market, i.e. the rental housing owners, because Bill 492 restricts the fundamental right of ownership by preventing the owner from repossessing his dwelling for himself or for a member of his family in the first degree.
The Quebec rental law is already so restrictive and loaded with cumbersome procedures for homeowners that a Bill to further restrict their fundamental rights can only discourage investors and increase the building of condominiums instead of rental dwellings.
The Association of Quebec Landlords also met Mrs Carole Poirier, MNA for Hochelaga-Maisonneuve of the Parti Québécois.
Obviously, Bill 492 was also discussed with her and our position on the non-necessity of adding additional burdens to the owners.
With Mrs Poirier we also have been talking about Bill 54 on animals and on punishing their negligent masters.
The Association of Quebec Landlords continues to meet with the various levels of government to support the rights of owners.
